About Julie Royston
Founder of Emberline Training & Lead Instructor
With nearly two decades of dedicated service in healthcare and education, I have made it my life’s mission to ensure that no one has to navigate life’s most difficult transitions alone. My journey is rooted in a deep belief that every individual deserves to be seen, heard, and cared for with the utmost dignity.
My Professional Foundation
My expertise is built on a foundation of rigorous training, multiple diplomas, and a lifetime of global experience:
Qualified Handicapped Attendant: Currently supporting students and families within the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), providing essential care and advocacy in the educational system.
Certified Infant & Pregnancy Loss Doula: Certified through the Home Hospice Association (HHA) since 2018. This specialized work and my dedication to the community brought my mission to the spotlight on Breakfast Television, MATv, The West Island Blog, and Montreal Families.
Qualified PAB (Patient Service Associate): Holding a Diploma of Vocational Studies from the West Island Career Centre (2017).
Certified International Educator (Since 2007): Dedicated service in England as a Special Needs Educator, bringing a long-standing global perspective to my work.
A Journey of Care
Throughout my career, I have walked alongside families in their most vulnerable moments. My clinical experience has anchored me here in Montreal to work, where I have been privileged to serve within the Montreal Children’s Hospital, the Royal Victoria Hospital, and the West Island Palliative Care Residence.
Beyond the hospital setting, I have dedicated myself to the intimate work of Home Care, providing specialized palliative support for those choosing to remain in the comfort of their own environment during their final transition.
Your Partner in Learning
Emberline Training is a registered company with the NEQ, established specifically to provide professional, certified courses. When you join my programs, you aren't just earning a diploma; you are gaining a lifelong partner in care.
I will be there with you every step of the way—both during your training and long after you’ve graduated. Whether you are working in a hospital, a care unit, or a private residence, these courses are the ideal fit to ensure no one falls through the cracks. Together, we can provide the support our community deserves.
Our Shared Vision
At the heart of this initiative is a simple, powerful belief: Dignity and support during loss should never be a financial privilege. This mission is deeply rooted in the foundation I was invited to 2018, inspired by the work of a Toronto-based NPO where I first learned the profound impact of structured community bereavement support. Now, I am personally bringing those lessons to life through my own organization.
Personal Advocacy and Professional Blending
I will be leading this initiative myself, taking an active role in ensuring that every family and qualified Doula is supported. My goal is to "blend" qualified Doulas directly into the home and hospital environments, including:
Infant and Pregnancy Loss Doulas
End-of-Life Doulas
This "blending" process is key—it is about seamlessly integrating a trained professional into the family's existing support system. Whether a qualified Doula has graduated through my specific program or has successfully completed a certification elsewhere, I will personally oversee how they are matched to ensure the most compassionate and effective fit for each unique situation.
Sustainability Through the NPO
A core pillar of this organization is ensuring that this vital work is professional and sustainable.
Supporting the Work: The NPO ensures that the qualified Doula’s supporting work is fully paid for through the organization’s funding and initiatives.
Removing the Burden: Because the NPO covers these costs, the family never has to worry about having to pay. This model ensures that qualified Doulas are compensated for their specialized skills while keeping the service accessible to every family, regardless of their financial situation.
The Six-Week Bereavement Promise
When a family is blended with a qualified Doula through our non-profit, they receive six weeks of dedicated, ongoing bereavement support.
Focus on Healing: By removing the financial barrier, we allow families to focus entirely on honoring their loved ones and finding a path forward.
Continuous Advocacy: We provide the "missing" support that exists between clinical hospital care and the transition back to daily life.
The Next Phase: Expanding Our Reach
I am currently laying the groundwork for the next phase of this mission. Once we have established a strong network of qualified Doulas and the operational foundation is fully set, we will officially move into the active matching phase. This expansion will allow us to scale our impact, ensuring that as our roster of qualified Doulas grows, so does our ability to reach every family in need across our community.
Every Step of the Way
This organization is a movement to ensure that every individual facing loss is seen and supported. I am committed to being there for the qualified Doulas and the families alike—during the transition and for the critical weeks that follow. Together, we can ensure that no one in our community has to walk the path of loss alone.
